South Korea President Yoon Suk Yeol impeached
- South Korea’s parliament has voted to impeach the president, Yoon Suk Yeol
- The impeachment stemmed from President Yoon's controversial declaration of martial law on December 3, 2024
- It was done with a vote of 204 in favor, 85 against, three abstentions, and eight invalid votes.
- It was the second impeachment vote Yoon faced, after a similar vote last week failed.
- He was accused of abusing his power
- Following the impeachment, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo was appointed acting president
- Han will serve in this role until the Constitutional Court decides whether to permanently remove Yoon from office
- If Yoon is removed, a new presidential election must be held within 60 days
Why was Martial Law invalid?
- Yoon's declaration of martial law was justified by claims of internal and external threats
- It includes opposition efforts to impeach his cabinet members and unspecified threats from North Korea.
- However, the South Korean constitution allows martial law only in cases of war or similar national emergencies.
- The military and police officials contradicted Yoon's claims

Manish Jain Appointed Executive Director at YES Bank
- The Reserve Bank of India has approved the appointment of Manish Jain as the Executive Director of Yes Bank
- It is for a three-year term, from December 11, 2024, to December 10, 2027.
- The approval is based on Section 35B of The Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
